Fr Michael Kong

Administrator
[object Object]

I am excited to introduce myself as the new Parish Administrator here at Sacred Heart Church in Kew. My name is Father Michael (Duck Young) Kong, and I am deeply honoured to join this wonderful community.

I was born and raised in South Korea, and in 2006, I came to Australia for language studies, and continued to study in Commerce. I entered the Melbourne Seminary in 2008, and in 2014, I was ordained as a priest for Melbourne Archdiocese. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in several parishes, including Box Hill, Box Hill North, Moreland, Hampton, and Pascoe Vale. In 2021, I began further studies in Institutional Social Communication at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. Now, I am excited to return to Australia and begin this new chapter with you all at Sacred Heart community.

I am truly delighted to be here, and I look forward to working alongside you to nurture and grow the seeds of God’s Word in our community. My pastoral vision is to serve not only those who are already part of the parish and the school, but also to reach out to those who may not yet know Jesus or who are currently away from the church. I want to help bring the Gospel to all people, especially those who may find it hard to connect with the church.

In addition to my pastoral work, I have been using social media under the name “PapaDonPreach” to share the message of Christ. Through these platforms, I hope to make the church more accessible and inviting, encouraging individuals to engage with our community and learn more about our faith.

I am truly looking forward to being part of this community, and I ask for your continued support and prayers. Together, we can work to spread the love and teachings of Jesus to many more people.

Thank you for welcoming me so warmly, and I am excited to see what we can accomplish together.

Religious Life in the Parish

We are blessed to be surrounded by many witnesses who have consecrated their whole lives to Jesus. There are both contemplative and apostolic orders of religious life:

In the Parish of Sacred Heart we have the beautiful Kew Carmelite Monastery, the home of contemplative nuns living by the primitive Rule for the Carmelites as it was incorporated by St Teresa of Avila in her Reform for the Discalced Carmelites. The calling to the Contemplative life is an invitation from God to follow a more constant and higher form of prayer and penance and practice of virtue which one lovingly fulfils through a daily fidelity to the observance of the vows of obedience, chastity and poverty. Thus the Carmelite religious is disposed to enter more deeply into the work and mystery of Christ’s life and redeeming sacrifice of love on Calvary. On Cotham Road you can also find the Missionary Sisters of St Peter Claver, founded by Blessed Mary Theresa Ledòchowska. The special apostolate of this international congregation of religious sisters is to awaken a love for the missions in all hearts. Looking in faith at Jesus on the Cross and listening to His cry “I thirst” ( Jn 19:28 ) the Sisters are urged to cooperate with Him in the salvation of souls, as expressed in the motto of the Congregation: The most divine of divine things is to cooperate in the salvation of souls. We are blessed to have them as part of our parish and often participating in parish Masses and events. Click here to see their website and learn more.

Sacred Heart Primary School

It is a vibrant and engaging learning community where each person feels a sense of worth and belonging. Our school aims to create an atmosphere where each child is known, challenged, supported and encouraged to be happy and successful learners. We aim to develop sense of belonging within the school, parish and wider community for each child. We work in partnership with parents to provide the children with security in a caring Christian climate. Click here to go to their website.
