CATECHESIS OF CHILDREN NOT IN THE PARISH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Catechesis of children who do not attend the parish primary school or another Catholic school in the area is undertaking in the following programmes. All classes take place at St Bede’s, Balwyn North. Generally, only children who are resident in the parishes of St Teresa of Kolkata, Balwyn North Kew East or Sacred Heart, Kew may be enrolled.

Introduction to the sacraments

A programme run on Saturday afternoon at St Bede’s, Balwyn North, in which the children have a basic introduction to the Catholic faith, and attend Mass following the class each week with their parents. This programme must be completed before a child can be enrolled in the sacramental programme.

This programme is advertised each year through the parish bulletin.

Preparation for First Reconciliation

Children who are in Grade 3 or above and have completed the above programme can enrol. The programme is advertised each year through the parish bulletin, and is held on a weekday afternoon after school.

First Eucharist

Children who have celebrated First Reconciliation and are in Grade 4 or above may enrol. They may celebrate their First Eucharist in the church of their choice within the two affiliated parishes. The programme includes classes on a weekday afternoon after school, a reflection day, and a parent workshop.

Confirmation

Children who have celebrated their First Eucharist and are Grade 6 or above may enrol. Confirmation is celebrated once a year at St Bede’s and Sacred Heart. The programme includes classes on a weekday afternoon after school, a reflection day, and a parent workshop.
