Confirmation

We have renewed the Sacramental program at Sacred Heart for 2024. Children in the school will make their preparation through the school, ahead of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday night October 10 (Term 4). To complete their preparation, there will be a reflection day at the school closer to this date. More details will come through the school as we approach Term 3.

Any children outside the school who wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Sacred Heart Parish are invited to contact the parish office or talk to the parish priest to book a place in the Saturday afternoon preparation program for 2024. Typically they are in grade 6 but older children are most welcome. The parish will provide three Saturday sessions from 3:30pm to 5pm leading up to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at 7pm Mass on Thursday night October 10 (Term 4). The Saturday afternoon sessions will be August 31, September 7 and 14 (Term 3). All three of these Saturday sessions are required to make this Sacrament, and the cost of the program is $200.00 per child. Children outside the school are also welcome to participate in the Sacred Heart school reflection day on Friday the 17th of September (details TBC). Please also note that this Sacrament cannot be received in the same year as your child makes their First Eucharist. If you have any questions please contact the parish office and register your interest for 2024.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of initiation and is a Catholic Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Confirmation perfects our baptism and brings us the graces of the Holy Spirit that were granted to the Apostles on Pentecost Sunday. It is most often associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

If Baptism is the sacrament of re-birth to a new and supernatural life, Confirmation is the sacrament of maturity and coming of age. Confirmation is a sacrament of empowerment. It gives the strength to follow Jesus and to become involved in the mission which Jesus left to the Church.
